The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation after a tourist was discovered with bullets at Velana International Airport (VIA).
According to a police media officer, a 60-year-old traveler was caught with bullets in his luggage at VIA on Saturday morning. The situation is being investigated by police, although he has not been detained, according to reports.
The bullets were discovered with a tourist leaving the country. However, authorities did not reveal the tourist’s country or any other information.
Security at the country’s main airport has been tightened up in the aftermath of the May 6 terror attack on Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
