Treetop Hospital in Hulhumale’ has successfully completed a craniotomy and resection of an intracranial tumour in a 66 year old patient.
The surgical procedure was led by Neurosurgeon Dr. Juan Lourido, Anesthesiologist Dr. Aminath Fiuna, Dr. Viswajith Udhey Kumar and Medical Officer Dr. Gasim Nimal, and assisted by the surgical nurses and technical staffs.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Juan Lourido expressed his delight at successfully completing this complex surgery. “I am very happy not note that the surgical procedure was very successful” said Dr. Lourido.
Craniotomy is a surgical procedure that removes part of the skull bone to expose the brain. Specialized tools are used to remove the section of bone called the bone flap. The bone flap is temporarily removed, then replaced after the brain surgery has been done.
