The Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit today.
Minister Çavuşoğlu was welcomed at Velana İnternational Airport (VIA) by Maldivian Foreign Minister, President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid.
He is visiting Maldives after an invitation by Maldives Foreign Minister and UNGA President Abdulla Shahid and will meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
Maldives and Turkey will hold official talks to improve bilateral relations and sign several MoUs as part of the official visit.
Turkey and Maldives maintain close diplomatic relations since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1979. Turkey has also recently become a popular destination for Maldivian tourists, due to the relative ease in travel restrictions.
