Maldives Police Service has stated that two suspects have been arrested in relation to the assasination attempt on Former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
The assasination attempt by an IED, which was triggered around 20:20 on May 6, 2021 left Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and five injured from the explosion.
Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed had revealed that no prior information was received from police intelligence about the attack, but that they have four persons of interest under surveillance.
Moreover, authorities are in discussions with the Prosecutor General’s Office and necessary action will be taken against the suspects. Police are currently monitoring these 4 individuals and would not allow them to leave the country.
Police said that further details will be provided in a press briefing later today.
