UNICEF has donated 100 tablets to the Maldives Bureau of Statistics for use in the forthcoming census.
The Maldives’ next census, which is done every ten years, is slated for September 17th, 2022.
The Bureau of Statistics estimates that a total of 1,876 tablets will be needed for data collecting in next year’s census.
According to the Bureau, it has received 187 tablets from earlier surveys along with tablets provided by UNICEF.
The state budget for 2022 contains funding to purchase the remaining tablets, and the tablets used by census takers will also be utilised to make up the difference, according to the statistical service.
With preparations for the census of 2022 already underway, the Bureau predicts that a total of 4,300 census takers will be required.
