According to the Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC), 27% of the vaccine-eligible population in the Maldives has not received a single dosage.
In a press conference held today, Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq, the HEOC’s spokesperson, stated that since the number of daily COVID-19 cases has fallen, this would be an ideal chance for people to get vaccinated.
Dr. Nazla also underlined the necessity of getting vaccinated to avoid serious COVID-19 infection. She also stated that increased vaccination rates would result in further easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
Furthermore, she urged anyone who had not been immunized to receive the required doses of the COVID-19 vaccine during the mass vaccination program slated for next month.
She also noted that the proportion of people who have received a single dose is greater in the Maldives compared to the rest of the world, which she described as a significant victory in the fight against the pandemic.
The government had announced a mass vaccination campaign for next month, with the goal of vaccinating 90% of the population by the end of August.
