The new apron at Velena International Airport (VIA), which was built as part of a huge airport development project, has been formally inaugurated.
The airport’s operator, Maldives Airports Company Limited’s CEO, Managing Director Gordon Andrew Stewart, and Island Aviation Services CEO Mohamed Mihad attended the opening event for the new apron at VIA.
During the opening ceremony for the newly built ‘Apron 3B,’ an aircraft of the Maldivian, the country’s flag carrier, parked in the new apron, which was greeted with a water salute.
Speaking to the media during the inauguration ceremony, Gordon stated that the new apron will give more conveniences to passengers, and that it was built to deliver their services even faster. He also stated that Apron 3B, which is directly in front of the domestic terminal, will save time for passengers exiting and coming from the domestic terminal.
China’s Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) oversaw the new apron construction.
