Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem has warned that vigilance justice must come to an end immediately.
Speaking at the Human Rights and Gender Committee at Parliament on Wednesday, PG Shameem said vigilante justice has become a concerning issue in society. He added that it could spiral out of control and lead to dire consequences.
PG Shameem also asked relevant authorities to put an end to it immediately and not to take this lightly. The laws and regulations are there for a reason, though there are delays in the legal proceedings, according to Shameem.
Many cases of vigilante justice have surfaced recently leading many to question at what point legal authorities would step in to resolve the delays in legal proceedings before it spirals out of control.
