Voting for the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) coalition’s parliamentary primaries has officially commenced today. A total of 227 vote boxes will be strategically placed across Male’ and various islands, creating a tapestry of democratic participation.
The voting will take place from 10:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. The primaries will witness a fierce competition among 283 candidates vying for victory in 73 constituencies. The eligible voter count, standing at an impressive 71,597.
For those casting their votes in Male’ City for island constituencies, the Henveiru Stadium emerges as the epicenter of voting. Meanwhile, Male’ residents will find vote boxes strategically placed at prominent locations such as Kalaafaanu School, Jamaluddeen School, Thaajuddeen School, Villimale’ Youth Centre, Kamil Didi School, and Rehendhi School.
Thirteen candidates have already clinched their tickets without facing the primaries, emerging as sole contestants in their respective constituencies. All eyes are on the coalition’s primaries, poised to sculpt the political narrative and set the tone for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
