In a press release issued by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Technology, starting next month, the waste collection fee will now be included in electricity bills.
According to the Environment Ministry, the decision was made in response to the issue of many households not paying the waste collection fee. The Ministry noted that the current system of waste management in the city is no longer sustainable.
The Ministry has also emphasized the importance of proper waste management for a healthy environment, and the new fee will ensure that the waste management system receives adequate funding to operate effectively. The press release also stated that the waste collection fee will not change and remain the same rate as previously charged by Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO).
The Ministry has also encouraged residents to play their part by reducing and segregating waste and recycling more, which will ultimately help to reduce the amount of waste generated and the associated costs of waste management.
